Phil Ivey has been labeled as the number one poker contender on the globe by quite a few of the top-ranked pros. He was born in Riverside, CA and moved to NJ before reaching turning one. His grandfather taught him one cent-ante Five-Card Stud poker. From then on on, Phil was addicted to poker and wanted to discover every little thing he could about poker. He routinely told his grandparents that he was going to be a professional poker player. He did not allow the negative comments from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the best poker players in the world.
Phil started playing seriously after getting a false ID with the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the casinos of Atlantic City. The beginning few years for him were a learning opportunity and winning wasn’t a regular outcome at the time. He made his mark at the 2000 World Series of Poker when he made 2 final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a two dollar, five hundred Pot-Limit Omaha match. At the closing table he destroyed a number of the better known pros including "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.
Phil decided to take his game to the next level and moved out west to Las Vegas. Phil continues to compete in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players on the planet. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal love for poker. Phil says that he’s picking up skills every single day and is incredibly humble about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes every single session of poker and constantly strives to get better.
Although Phil has come first in some big tournaments, he prefers destroying money games on a regular basis.
