Gus Hansen had a wonderful year on the World Poker Tour where he was the only one to make it to the final table in three of the tournaments. Gus Hansen has appeared on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he paid $400, 000 to play. You may remember one of the biggest pots in big stakes poker history competing against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a massive pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is deemed to be one of the best gamblers anywhere in the world. While wagering on internet poker, a different side of Hansen has appeared. Gus frequently participates in the 200/400 NL max buy-in of $40, 000. Gus usually buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and gambles very poorly. He waits for a good hand and then goes all-in. I believe Hansen is an amazing poker player but not even close to the everyday players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has no reason to settle at the game with the min buy-in.
Playing for the minimum takes most of the skill out of big stack poker. Hansen is assumed to be one of the greatest players in the world but he cannot buy in for the full dollar value. I believe tv can alter our perception of the real world sometimes. The best players anywhere in the world might just be guys you have will not have heard of. Gus can be found participating in net poker on Full Tilt. He generally participates in high stakes omaha eight-or-better and Holdem. Gus has proven himself as a competition player. Can he use his talents in cash games?
