Gus Hansen enjoyed a wonderful year on the WPT where he was the only player to achieve last table in three of the competitions. Gus Hansen has been seen on High Stakes Poker on GSN where he bought into the game for $400, 000. You might remember one of the largest pots in high stakes poker recorded history against Daniel Negreanu. Gus won a large pot with quads against Daniel’s full house. Hansen has made many televised poker appearances and is considered to be one of the greatest players in the world. While gambling on net poker, another side of Hansen has appeared. He regularly competes in the 200/400 NL maximum buy in of $40, 000. Gus more often than not buys-in for the minimum of $16, 000 and plays very weak. He waits patiently for a good hand and then pushes all in. I believe Gus is a great poker player but not even close to the regular players at 200/400NL. Unless Gus is bankrupt, he has little or no reason to play at the table with the min buy in.
Buying in for the min takes a majority of the expertise out of deep stack poker. Gus is supposed to be one of the greatest poker players in the world but he cannot buy-in for the full amount. I believe tv can skew our view of the real world at times. The best players in the world could be players you have will not have heard of before. Gus can be found participating in web poker on Full Tilt. He usually competes in high stakes omaha/8 and hold’em. Gus Hansen has proven himself as a tournament player. Can he use his skills in cash rounds?
