Omaha Hi-Lo (also known as Omaha/8 or better) is commonly seen as one of the most complicated but popular poker games. It’s a game that, even more than regular Omaha poker, aims for action from all levels of players. This is the primary reason why a once irrelevant variation, has increased in popularity so amazingly.
Omaha hi lo begins like a normal game of Omaha. 4 cards are given out to every player. A sequence of betting ensues where gamblers can bet, check, or drop out. Three cards are given out, this is referred to as the flop. One more round of wagering ensues. After all the gamblers have in turn called or folded, another card is revealed on the turn. an additional sequence of wagering ensues at which point the river card is revealed. The entrants must attempt to make the strongest high and low 5 card hands based on the board and hole cards.
This is where a few entrants get flustered. Unlike Holdem, in which the board can be everyone’s hand, in Omaha hi-low the player has to utilize precisely 3 cards on the board, and exactly two cards from their hand. Not a single card more, no less. Contrary to regular Omaha, there are two ways a pot may be won: the "high hand" or the "lower hand."
A high hand is exactly what it sounds like. It is the strongest hand out of everyone’s, whether that is a straight, flush, full house. It is the identical approach in just about every poker game.
The lower hand is more complicated, but really opens up the action. When deciding on a low hand, straights and flushes don’t count. A low hand is the weakest hand that might be made, with the lowest value being made up of A-2-3-4-5. Seeing as straights and flushes do not count, A-2-3-4-5 is the lowest value hand possible. The low hand is any five card hand (unpaired) with an 8 and smaller. The lower hand takes half of the pot, as just like the higher hand.
