Phil Ivey has been referred to as the number one poker competitor on the planet by most of the top-ranked professionals. Phil Ivey was born in Riverside, CA and moved to New Jersey before reaching turning one. His grandfather introduced him to one cent-ante 5-Card Stud poker. From that point on, he was addicted to poker and wanted to pickup every little thing he possibly could about the game. Phil routinely told his grandparents that he was planning on being a professional poker player. Phil did not permit the adverse feedback from other people annihilate his goal of becoming one of the strongest poker competitors on the planet.

Phil started competing intently after acquiring a fake ID by the name of Jerome. He practiced his skills at the poker rooms of Atlantic City. The initial number of years for Phil were a learning experience and coming away with a win was not a regular thing at the time. Phil became known at the 2000 WSOP when he made two final tables and came away with his first WSOP bracelet, in a $2, 500 Pot-Limit Omaha game. At the final table he destroyed a number of the better known professionals including but not limited to "Amarillo Slim" Preston, David "Devilfish" Ulliot, and Phil Hellmuth, Jr.

Phil made a decision to take his game to the successive level and headed out west to Sin City. He continues to participate in in "The Big Game" at the Bellagio with the greatest players in the world. Ivey credits his achievements to discipline and an eternal passion for the game of poker. He says that he is learning every single day and is incredibly abashed about his achievements. He knows he makes mistakes in each game of poker and always aspires to improve.

Despite the fact that Ivey has come first in some large tournaments, he favors destroying money games on a regular basis.
